Courses will be taught in our brand new state-of-the-art workshops fully equipped with new rolling road testing equipment. The programmes are designed for young people aged 16 - 19 (mature applicants are welcome) to prepare them for future study, apprenticeships and NVQ through a broad based curriculum. The range of Level 2 qualifications cover the specialist areas of vehicle fitting, maintenance and repair procedures.
Each course will provide essential knowledge and skills for vehicle technicians working on a wide range of vehicles in all types of garages, dealerships and fast fit businesses. Learners also gain a broad knowledge and understanding of health and safety in the workplace, agreeing customer vehicle needs and other skills associated with working in a garage.
The timetables currently range between 2 - 3 days per week which will consist of formal lectures, practical sessions, demonstrations, films, research using workshop/technical manuals, Functional Skills and a small element of self directed study. Level 1 Students are expected to attend Personal Social Development (PSD) sessions along with functional Skills (Maths, English & ICT) for those applicable.
During the year students who are on target with their studies will have the opportunity to participate in planned enrichment activities that will take place during target review weeks, these trips cost between £20 – 30. In previous years, trips have included karting, paintballing, car/motorcycle museum tours, theme parks, race tracks and car factories.
Students will also be required to provide Personal Protective Equipment at a cost of no more than £35 along with a basic tool kit costing around £85. Full details will be available from automotive staff at your course consultation.
