Four GCSE’s at grade ‘C’ one of these to be in English or achievement of a Level 2 Child Care course. A reference from school/college showing a positive attitude and good attendance will also be required. A Criminal Record Bureau check will be undertaken.

This is a 2 year course.

Course Description

This award for learners with experience of working with children in an early years setting with a range of responsibilities.
A minimum of two working days in required.
This qualification is designed to meet the challenges and demands of today’s child care workforce. Candidates are prepared to work unsupervised, or in a supervisory capacity, with children and their families in a variety of settings. The course content includes development from conception to age 16 years; supporting children; keeping children safe; play; learning and development of professional.

How is the Qualification Achieved ?

The qualification is split into three stages; Award, Certificate and Diploma. It is expected that candidates will progress through to Diploma level in order to practice as an early years practitioner. A range of assessment methods are used throughout the course including multiple choice question papers, short answer papers, assignments, portfolios and assessment of practical competence in the work setting.

On Successful Completion of this Course

Successful candidates may use the Diploma to:
• Work as an Early Year Practitioner, either as an assistant or a manger in a variety of settings
• Move into other areas such as children’s nursing and midwifery
• Enter university
• Study for a Foundation Degree after gaining some experience in the workplace
