Applicants must be 19 years old or over on the 1st September 2010
No formal qualifications are required although prior GCSEs will be valuable for some aspects of the programme. Your basic skills will be assessed at interview to guage your ability to study at the required level.
Return to Learn Course is also available to help people return to study and prepare for Access entry.

1 year, intense, fast-track programme: 5 days per week, 9.15am-4.30pm
2 year programme: 3 days per week, 9.15am-2.30pm
Evenings
2 years programme: 2 evenings per week, 6pm-9pm
Course Description
The course is a Nationally recognised Access programme, and will meet the minimum academic entry requirements for study at Higher Education degree level.
You will study core modules of English and Math at GCSE equivalence and I.T. In addition, there are four main modules of Psychology, Sociology, Social Policy, Professional Practice in Social Care/Work. In addition, you will be encouraged to seek voluntary or paid work in the social welfare field.
How is the Qualification Achieved ?
The Access to Higher Education course uses a range of assessment methods and is designed to prepare students for joining University. You will be expected to complete written assignments, projects, case studies, reports, seminars and end of module examinations.
On Successful Completion of this Course
Apply to study at Higher Level, Degrees, Foundation Degree or HND. Alternatively, you may decide to seek vocational employment and in-service training.

All students are invited to an interview where you will be given an overview of the Access to Higher Education Pathways Programmes offered at NEW College. You will be invited to complete a computer based maths assessment and a short written comprehension task. You should take no longer than 2 hours including the comprehension task.
After your interview, following proccessing of your interview tasks we will be able to recommend the best pathway for you to achieve your qualifications.
If successful, students will be offered a place on one of our pathways:
Two-year Access to HE Programme
One -year, intence Access to HE Programme
