None, but if you have no previous experience or knowledge of using counselling skills, it may be useful to complete the 10 week Certificate in Initial Counselling Skills first.

25 weeks - one morning or evening per week.
Course Description
For those who wish to gain practical counselling skills to use in their workplace and for those who wish to increase their understanding of the counselling process, and to practice and improve their counselling skills. Also for trainees wishing to begin a progress route leading to counselling practitioner training
How is the Qualification Achieved ?
The assessment of the course will be through a portfolio of written work and observations and tape recordings of counselling skills practice.
There is also a final exam based on your observations of a video taped counselling skills session.
On Successful Completion of this Course
You will be able to continue on to higher level counselling courses, starting with the Certificate in Counselling Studies. This is also a useful standalone course which will enable you to acquire skills useful in many workplace situations.

The course will introduce you to the practice of some basic counselling skills and relate these skills to particular settings. It will introduce you to the theoretical foundations of counselling, introduce you to self-development work and emphasise the necessity for the maintenance of ethical boundaries in counselling. Units studied include:
* Use counselling skills ethically and safely
* Establish and sustain a boundaried helping interaction
* Apply understanding of diversity issues to helping interactions
* Manage an active listening space
* Use self-awareness in the helping role
* Use a range of counselling skills
* Use self-reflection to facilitate counselling skills
