Entry Requirements

This is a follow-on course from the CPCAB Certificate in Counselling Skills, therefore you will need to have completed a Certificate in Counselling Skills (at least 75 hours) first.

One evening a week - 30 weeks.

Course Description

This is a course which builds on the work done on the Certificate in Counselling Skills. You will learn more about the theory of counselling and the various approaches and philosophies that underpin counselling work. You will have the opportunity to further develop and practise your counselling skills and the course will prepare you for a work placement in a counselling agency, undertaken on the Advanced Diploma course.

How is the Qualification Achieved ?

The assessment of the course will be through a portfolio of written work and observations and tape recordings of counselling skills practice.

There is also a final exam based on your observations of a video taped counselling skills session.

On Successful Completion of this Course

Continue in your counselling training by moving on to the Advanced Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling. This qualification will also be useful on its own if you use or intend to use counselling skills in your work, or if you are interested in the theory of counselling.

You can enrol directly if you have had confirmation from a tutor that your previous qualifications are suitable. Holders of the CPCAB or AQA Certificate in Counselling Skills (at least 75 hours) may enrol directly. Otherwise, talk to a tutor or fill in a part time course application form.
