Entry Requirements
Ideally you will need 4 GCSEs at minimum Grade C, including English, or an equivalent qualification. As the course title suggests communication is an important skill for you to be successful on this course. You will also need to attend an interview at College. It is extremely helpful if you have studied GCSE IT, Dida or are familiar with a range of computer software application packages such as Dreamweaver, Access, Publisher and Excel because these skills are not formally included in the course specification. Maths although desirable is not essential.

1 year for AS level and two years for a 2 year A level program.
Course Description
Unit 1: Practical Problem Solving in the Digital World
There will be an externally set 1 hour-30 minute, written exam paper. This unit involves short answer questions on topics including practical use of ICT, identifying, designing, producing, testing, documenting and evaluating solutions along with data entry, storage, output of information, use of software, and current health and safety legislation.
Unit 2: Living in the Digital World
This unit is asessed with an externally set 1 hour-30 minute examination. Topics studied
include, ICT systems and their components, uses and users, safety and security as well as Data and information, data transfer, backup and recovery.
Advanced Level (A2)
Unit 3: The Use of ICT in the Digital World
There will be an externally set 2 hour written exam paper.
This unit involves studying developments in technology, information needs of organisations, ICT systems, management of ICT along with Developing ICT systems, introducing large ICT systems into organisations and training and supporting users of ICT systems. You will be assessed by a 2 hour exam set by the exam board.
Unit 4 : Coursework: Practical issues involved in the use of ICT in the Digital World
You will complete a project that involves Practical issues related to managing the use of ICT in organisations, investigating , analysing, defining requirement and selecting and using appropriate technologies. In addition to the design of solutions and methods for testing, installation, documentation and evaluation.
How is the Qualification Achieved ?
There are two units at AS and two units at A2. AS units are externally examined and A2 units are assessed by both coursework and examination.
On Successful Completion of this Course
You could go on to a higher education course or employment where understanding how ICT can be used in society and business, and the implications of its use, will be a valuable asset.
