Entry Requirements

You will need to be employed in an associate teacher role which can include teaching on a one to one basis and/or teaching on a programme that is confined to one level/subject/ type of learner.You will have at least 30 hours teaching practice and use teaching materials that are largely preprepared.You should also have a minimum level 3 qualification in the subject that you teach and a good standard of general education including literacy and numeracy.

The Certificate is a one year programme and takes place on a part time basis. It includes some weeks of integrated self study.

Course Description

This initial teacher training qualification is designed for those in an associate teaching role and is part of the new initial teaching framework implemented in September 2007. It is offered in partnership with the University of Warwick The certificate is available at level 4.
The programme includes a range of mandatory and optional units including the following :
Preparing to teach in the life long learning sector
Planning and enabling learning
Principles and practice of assessment and evaluation using resources

How is the Qualification Achieved ?

The qualification is achieved through a combination of assignments and a minimum of 3 teaching practice observations

On Successful Completion of this Course

Successful completion can lead on to the Diploma in Teaching in the Life Long Learning Sector though this is dependent on teaching role and responsibilites.
