This course is designed to provide students with an understanding of the techniques, theories and research of contemporary practice in photography, enabling you to develop a range of skills necessary to be successful in the world of photography. Through a mixture of workshops, lectures, and practical assignments, you will develop both practical and analytical skills to a professional level.
Modules introduce students to a wide range of subject areas that are relevant to contemporary photographic practices, and you will have the opportunity to utilise a wide range of both traditional and non-traditional materials and techniques including analogue and digital media.
You will have access to an excellent range of equipment, photographic studios and darkrooms, Apple Macintosh computer suite, print room, design studios, and a course team of dedicated individuals who have relevant professional experience and understanding of current photographic practice.
The applied nature of art and design is integral to the Foundation Degree in order to prepare students for employment within the creative industries or into art and design practice. Fundamental to the Foundation Degree is the creation of strong employer partnerships and the commissioning of 'live' projects from the creative industries and businesses, promoting new ways of course delivery through work experience opportunities and a real working environment.
Students enjoy a lively and flexible working environment utilising specialist Art workshops, a range of professionally qualified and experienced staff and an atmosphere designed to allow for creativity. Students develop a wide range of complementary skills and make use of the Professional Artrix arts centre complex, also based at the Bromsgrove campus
A combination of academic qualifications, experience and motivation will be required to demonstrate the potential to complete the programme successfully.
Students are required to obtain a minimum of 120 Tariff points.
Successful completion of a Foundation Degree qualifies students to progress on to the final year of a relevant honours degree programme. The latter is a key feature of a Foundation Degree.
