Welcome to the Home Page for College Governance at North East Worcestershire College

Governance is about the workings of the College Corporation. The “Corporation” is a group of individuals appointed as “Governors” or “Members” to provide high level strategic direction and monitoring.

The Corporation has responsibilities towards students, staff, employers, auditors, inspectors and the local community. These responsibilities are quite different from those of the Principal, who is responsible for the day to day management of the College and its staff.

Governors set the framework of policies and strategies for College managers to operate under and then monitor those activities. They act as trustees on behalf of the local community, ensuring that the College is equipped to serve the needs of the community effectively both now and for future generations of students. They are similar to the non-executive directors of a business enterprise.

The Corporation seeks to be open and accountable. Governors meet their responsibilities, amongst other expectations, through regular meetings of the Corporation and its Committees. North East Worcestershire College Corporation comprises fourteen Governors, who are selected on the basis of the skills they bring to the Corporation, compared with the needs of the Corporation. They try to ensure that the College provides an excellent service to students. To find out who they are, click here. The College recruits Governors all year round, with a local advertising campaign each autumn. If you would like to know more about becoming a Governor, click here.
